Gerd Sandstede (b. 1929) is a chemist active in the development of fuel cells, and a former director of the Battelle Institute Frankfurt, Germany. From 1991 to 2007 he was President (and since 2007, honorary President) of the Physikalischer Verein. In 1998 he initiated the construction of the Taunus Observatory.
