Friedrich August Theodor Winnecke (1835-1897) was an astronomer at Berlin, Pulkovo and Strasbourg. Between 1854 and 1877, he discovered or codiscovered ten comets. He initiated a survey of nebulae and worked in the fields of double and variable stars.
