Named for one of the most famous and tragic Japanese military commanders, Minamoto Yoshitsune (1159–1189). In 1185, he defeated the Heike in the great sea battle of Dannoura, and afterwards the jealousy of his elder brother Yoritomo {see planet  (3902)} forced him to commit suicide by the sword.
