With its 200~000 residents, Klaipeda is the third largest city in Lithuania. At the confluence of the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea, Klaipeda was founded in 1252 and had the old German name Memel. The seaport of Klaipeda is the northernmost ice-free port on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea.
