Denis Mukwege (b. 1950) is a Congolese gynecologist and director of the Panzi Hospital in Bukavu which he founded in 1999. He specialized in the treatment of thousands of women who had been sexually abused. In 2014 he was awarded the European Sakharov prize for his work.
