Named in memory of the well-known Danish polar explorer and writer Peter Freuchen (1886–1957) on the hundredth anniversary of his birth. He participated in several arctic expeditions to Greenland, and in 1910 he was co-founder of the Thule trading station, which he led until 1919. (M 11161) _ _.
