Named for the French painter and etcher Camille Corot (1796–1875). In his early years his style was classicistic, and he painted especially fine landscapes in the style of Claude Lorrain and Nicolas Poussin. Later, through his treatment of the light in his paintings, Corot became a forerunner of impressionism. (M 27331) _ _.
