Swiss physiologist Emil Abderhalden (1877–1950) lectured at the University of Halle during 1911–1945. He contributed more than 1000 articles to the physiologic chemistry of metabolism, created the basis of modern dietetics, discovered the defensive enzymes against exogenous proteins and promoted social welfare.
