Full Moon in Capricorn: Clearing and Rebuilding

01 Jul 2015, 11:35 am

Happy Capricorn Full Moon! This is the time of the year when the spotlight is on career, direction, structure, responsibility, maturity, status, the father, recognition, commitment, and leadership. If full moons are decision points or a time of revelation, the Capricorn Full Moon may show your life in a new light and prompt some needed changes. The full moon will be exact on July 1, 2015 at 10:19 pm EDT, 9 degrees Capricorn/Cancer. For those further afield that’s 7:19 pm LA, 3:19 am London on 7/2, and 12:19 pm Sydney on 7/2 as well.

This is a complicated full moon. I realize I’ve used these words before and they may strike a bit stale. Perhaps there is a better way to say it, yet we keep having these lunations that stick the needle into sensitive areas such as endings, abuse, loss, family trauma. So, it’s complicated. Yet again.

The Capricorn Full Moon is only five degrees off a conjunction to Pluto, close enough to pay attention to and far enough away to feel some breathing room. Then again, we can’t escape it; the lord of the underworld is standing in the corner of the room. And what has Pluto in Capricorn taught us since 2008? That in order to transform the existing structures of our lives, we have to look at the often unpleasant, cast off fragments of self lurking in the underbelly. Pluto’s visit to Capricorn has and will continue to be this constant act of demolition, clearing the rubble and beginning again.

As I’ve said before, full moons are decision points. If we are pivoting in a certain direction in the days following the full moon it’s in a wholly new direction, one that pays mind that some things are better off dead and buried. Yes, Pluto deals in such stark, bracing realizations. (As an aside, the full moon is the same degree as the fourth Uranus/Pluto square from November 13, 2013. It also touches on the Capricorn New Moon from January 1, 2014. Maybe worth paying attention if any themes come up.)

Further, the ruling planet of the full moon, Saturn, is over at 29 Scorpio. The full moon is also square the lunar nodes. Guys, this is some heavy stuff. The decisions we make not only reverberate across time, but they reach deep into the soul for release and healing.

Here’s the thing that we need to keep in mind. Whenever we have a lunation with a heavy lineup of energy or a Uranus/Pluto square or what have you, we have to be in our highest consciousness. How can we use this provocative energy for the highest good? If Pluto is making us look at the things we’d rather not look at, how do we have the courage to do so? How do we look into the dark of our soul and make peace with what we find? How do we reorder our world to accommodate new truths? How do we transform on a cellular level?

We have help with this full moon. Considering everything that is going on it may be easy to overlook that the Sun and Neptune are in the same degree. Trines — two planets 120 degrees apart from each other — are quiet. And the Sun and Neptune in trine? Even quieter. Like the sound of water gently running in the background it’s easy to miss. Remember to bring the Sun and Neptune into your consciousness, letting its healing waters wash over anything that comes up during this full moon. Lastly, don’t forget Venus and Jupiter in Leo, the sign of the Sun, just off to the side. There’s sweetness, even in the dark.
