New Moon in Aquarius: Allies

08 Feb 2016, 10:56 am

Happy Aquarius New Moon! This is the time of the lunar calendar when we turn our attention to themes of humanity, connection, equality, and our hopes for a better future. The new moon will be exact on February 8, 2016 at 9:39 am EST, 19 degrees Aquarius. For those further afield, that’s 6:39 am Los Angeles, 2:39 pm London, and 1:39 am Sydney on February 9.

Although the Sun has been Aquarius for a couple of weeks by now, it’s not until the new moon that we really start to manifest life through the prism the 11th sign. And what is Aquarius? It’s society, the collective, groups, and community.

When you get to the last few signs of the zodiac, you’re dealing with transpersonal themes. There’s a sense of perspective in Aquarius, a vantage point that allows us to see the bigger threads that run through the fabric of society as well as humanity. We’re not just an individual; we belong to something larger — a tribe, a nation, a planet.

If new moons program the holographic reality that we’ll be working through over the coming four weeks, this one will be seeded with questions such as . . . Where do I belong? Who are my friends? How can I feel more connected? Who shares my passions? How can I give back? How can I help the world?

Looking at the chart of the new moon, we have a clear idea of how these questions will unfold over the lunar month. First, the ruler of the new moon, Saturn, is over in Sagittarius. We’re taking our Aquarian need for connection and tribe and pairing it with Sagittarian need for truth and meaning. Translation? The next four weeks will push us to find our people, especially those who share our philosophy, faith, and outlook on the world. To make that happen, we may even travel to far flung shores or enrich an inward search through books, education, lectures, and documentaries. Additionally, this will be the perfect time to network or join a new group.

The tight Mars square to the new moon, however, hints at a dynamic road ahead. Mars is action and a call — or even a jolt — to make a change. Mars is noisy, too, so we can be assured that the rest of lunar month will be anything but subtle. We also need to note that Mars is in Scorpio, a sign that it is powerfully at home in. In order to move forward and find our tribe, we may have to confront themes of intimacy, power, control, secrets, and trust. Mars in Scorpio is a deep and almost uncomfortable look within. Maybe some of our friends really don’t have our best interests in mind. How do we connect with the people who will?

Lastly, the new moon will make a helpful sextile to Uranus in Aries. At the end of the day we have to be brave enough to be ourselves. We have to push through any fears as well as the the things that keep us isolated in order to find true connection in this world.
