Transiting Black Moon Lilith begins her tour of Virgo on November 27th. Virgo is the sign of purity and service, while BML represents raw female power and anger that is rooted in her status as an outcast. The last thing Lilith wants to do is hold back. And yet she’s going to be walking in the Virgin’s shoes until August 25th, 2015. (Read this article to get a sense of who Ms. Black Moon is.) I don’t think transiting BML will be felt as strongly as transiting planets, because you’re either tuned into her vibe, or you’re not. Some people experience her transits as brief but intense surges of jealousy, destructive passion or rage. Others ignore her completely, befitting her status as an outsider. The rare person is fully conscious of what she offers, and uses her transits to access a level of power that’s outside conventional boundaries. This requires an acceptance of the discomfort that she arouses: Black Moon Lilith’s power is not pretty or perfect.

Which brings us to Virgo, the sign that lives and breathes perfection. Virgo is on a mission to get it right, and the Virgin moniker comes not so much from literal abstinence (although that can certainly happen) but from the sacred drive to only engage in activities that are correct. Depending on how you deal with Virgo in your chart, this could mean sexual skills that are technically superior to anything your partner has experienced with anyone else. Ever. Or sex that can’t happen unless you, your partner, the sheets and the room are sanitized. Or sex (and relationships) with service that ranges from healthy nurturing to slavery and sacrifice. Virgo wants every interaction with her lover to be a peak experience of efficiency and satisfaction.

Black Moon Lilith and Shadow Virgo

Lilith’s dark power will be focused in Virgo, but where that focus is directed will make or break things. Virgo is obsessed with the details of what’s wrong. Since BML brings up issues around not being accepted, there’s increased potential for fixating on why you’re not being loved/appreciated. Neither Lilith nor Virgo are great at releasing hurts, which can lead to scenarios where you pick away at your rejection until you bleed. When BML’s anger gets twisted up with Virgo martyrdom, the result can be ugly self-flagellation. There may also be amplified feelings of guilt, as BML prods you to shake up a relationship where you’re feeling repressed. But Virgo’s not always comfortable standing up for herself. Black Moon Lilith is primal, so she can trigger some messy urges related to expressing true sexual desires or anger. The discord between what gets triggered, versus Virgo’s attempts to rationalize and refine, can keep you stuck on the gerbil-wheel of crisis as you go over and over the difficulties.

Black Moon Lilith and Empowered Virgo

This transit doesn’t have to be all guilt and OCD spasms. Virgo uses crisis as a vehicle for improvement, so this sign actually enjoys having a bit of grit in the gears. There’s potential for massive leaps of empowerment as Virgo hones Lilith’s energy and uses it to cut away what’s not working. No sign does surgical cuts better than Virgo, and if BML makes it obvious that you’re not being loved for your wild and unapologetic self, this transit can amputate certain people from your life. If Virgo’s cool-headed logic prevails, Lilith’s anger can be used to make real changes. For example, the guy you’ve been dating dumps you because he’s just not that into you. Fair enough. But you were falling hard for him, and in your gut you always suspected he was out of your league. To make matters worse, he hooks up with Ms. Exceptional, who seems to be everything you’re not: she fits perfectly into his world, and you don’t.

Lilith’s howl of rage at being rejected will be especially poignant in Virgo, because this sign focuses on inadequacies. Virgo in your chart is where things can always get better, but that means they’re never good enough. A BML crisis can be used to jump start improvements in this area. Rather than grinding away at why you’re inadequate, use her energy to zero in on why you feel that way to begin with. What measurable things can you improve? This can be anything from overhauling your diet to taking a crack at that novel you’ve been putting off. This is not about making yourself better for someone, it’s about boosting your pride in who you are.  Lilith’s energy is potent because it cuts through social expectations and is purely about what you can do for yourself. The “Virgin/Whore” split can be healed in this transit, as Virgo’s power of refinement makes Lilith’s energy constructive (rather than blindly destructive) and Lilith’s rebel energy gives Virgo a kick in the pants.

Lilith in Virgo can spice up healthy relationships by exploring “forbidden” expressions of love/sex in safe and sane ways. Virgo can take anything (literally, anything) and create a detailed plan where everyone’s needs are met, and all possible outcomes are accounted for. When you’re stepping off the path into unexplored country, it’s helpful to have a survival kit. Virgo can provide this, while ensuring that everyone makes it home in one piece.

You’re most likely to feel this transit if you have natal or progressed planets, angles, Nodes or asteroids in the Mutable signs. Anything in Virgo will obviously get the full impact with a conjunction. Pisces will get hit with an opposition, while Sagittarius and Gemini will encounter a square. Hard aspects like these are more likely to grab your attention. The Earth signs (Taurus and Capricorn) may feel this transit as BML trines them, blending her energy into theirs. Transits of BML require a tight orb (no more than 2 degrees applying).
