U.S. astronomer George Herbig (b. 1920), co-discoverer of Herbig-Haro objects, is a spectroscopist who has investigated young stars, star formation and the interstellar medium. At the Lick Observatory from 1948 to 1988, he now works at the University of Hawaii.
