Joachim A. Stüwe (b. 1958), of the Astronomisches Institut, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, has catalogued dark clouds and globules in the southern Milky Way and pioneered the development of distance determination algorithms for interstellar clouds based on automatic star counts.
