Roman poet Gaius Valerius Catullus (84 B.C.--54 B.C.) still influences poetry and other forms of art. His 116 Carmina include Passer mortuus est meae puellae (“My girl's sparrow has died”) and some were set to music by Carl Orff as Carmina Catulli, with the Carmina Burana part of a trilogy.
