Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter (1607-1676), in Dutch history a famous admiral, played a decisive role in the Anglo-Dutch Wars of the seventeenth century. De Ruyter was of humble origin but much loved by his sailors and soldiers. The name was suggested by C. E. Koppeschaar.
