A native of Vannes (Brittany, France), Yves Coppens (b. 1934) is an internationally known paleoanthropologist. A professor and former chair of anthropology of the Paris Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, he codiscovered Lucy, the Australopithecus afarensis fossil found in Ethiopia.
