Josef W. Fried (b. 1948) is a German astronomer at the Heidelberg Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie who was heavily involved in several instrumentation projects for the Calar Alto telescopes. Fried studied high-redshift quasars and tidal streams in our galaxy. He is an enthusiastic motorcyclist.
