Named for the river that originates in the Fichtelgebirge of Bavaria, runs not far from Tautenburg {see planet  (2424)}, crosses the cities of Jena {see planet  (526)} and Halle (the latter the birthplace of the discoverer) and flows into the Elbe. (M 22250) _ _.
