Named after Carl Spitzweg (1808–1885), German painter of the Biedermeier art period. His anecdotal and humoristic paintings mostly criticise his time through fine irony. Spitzweg travelled a lot through Europe, and his later work shows the influence of the coming impressionists. (M 22510) _ _.
