János Xántus (1825-1894) was a Hungarian scientist, traveler, ethnographer and a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He was the first director of the Budapest Zoo, and his botanical and zoological collections greatly enriched the collections of the Hungarian National Museum.
