Named for the Kiev Polytechnical Institute-National Technical University of Ukraine, on the hundredth anniversary of its founding in 1898 as the model for other institutions of higher education in Ukraine. Many famous people have taught there, including S. P. Korolov and B. E. Paton {see planets (1855) and (2727), respectively}. The famous aircraft and helicopter designer I. I.
