Named in honor of Shigeji Kusaji (1879–1956), agricultural worker in Asahikawa. He was the first head of the Asahikawa Astronomical Club and was an earnest observer of sunspots. His observations were made from 1928 to 1955, and observations are still being made by amateur astronomers at his club. (M 22506) _ _.
