Named for the Kyoto University’s Kwasan Observatory, which is located at the top of Kwasan hill on the eastern side of Kyoto city {see planet  (4352)}. Kwasan Observatory was established in 1929 and is known for its observational studies of the solar system, especially of Mars, Pluto, minor planets, comets and natural satellites. (M 21610) _ _.
