Martin Henze (b. 1981), an astronomer at the Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik, has discovered many optical novae in M31 on archival photographic plates at the Tautenburg Observatory. He also works on the discovery and analysis of optical and x-ray transients in nearby galaxies.
