Mt. Tanakami, extending over Shiga, Mie and Kyoto prefectures, is the site of the largest meteorite found in Japan. Tanakami is also the name of the village that is the birthplace of Issei Yamamoto, founder of the Oriental Astronomical Association. The name was suggested by I. Hasegawa and A. S. Yamamoto.
