Alvin is a deep-sea submersible with a depth range of 4000 meters. Built in 1964, it was used for some of the greatest undersea adventures of all, including the recovery of a lost nuclear device, the mapping of the Mid-Ocean Ridge and the discovery of “black smoker chimneys” and associated tube worms.
