Full Moon

Full Moon [16 Cancer 22]

– January 6, 2023 (23:08 GMT)

The first Full Moon of 2023 feels powerful so if your emotions are in full flow, look up to the Moon. The Full Moon is exact on January 6th when the Moon is in its sign of rulership, Cancer.

Traditionally Full Moons are a time for celebration as the Full Moon is deemed an auspicious time for festivals. Emotions are heightened and the Full Moon lights up the night sky extending the hours outside of darkness. More time to play or work outside, less sleep.

In the lunar cycle, the Full Moon represents culmination, ripeness, fertility and the bright light of the Moon denotes clarity. It’s a powerful time to tap into the intuitive side of your nature as head and heart become one.

Cancer/Capricorn Axis

This Full Moon cuts across the Cancer/Capricorn axis of the zodiac which is about home (Cancer) & work (Capricorn). Therefore a big part of this Full Moon is how you balance the work/life axis.

Plus, as this Full Moon falls relatively close to the start of the year, you may be looking ahead to what you want more of and less of in 2023. Where is the balance out and what are the values you’re choosing to bring into your life as the year continues?

A Full Moon reminds us of life’s polarities as the Sun and Moon directly oppose each other from opposite signs. You can either be pulled in different directions or find a way to bring opposing factors together so they complement one another better.

Sun/Mercury Cazimi

Talk planet Mercury remains retrograde in Capricorn this week. Another reason why you may be reviewing or revising your plans & ideas. During the Full Moon, Mercury sits next to the Sun in Capricorn and this combination feels magical.

This is because there’s a potential lightbulb moment during Mercury’s retrograde phase. This is when Mercury makes an exact conjunction with the Sun, called cazimi in astrology. This takes place on January 7th at 12:57 GMT. This is when the cazimi conjunction is most powerful.

The Sun/Mercury conjunction is the change-over period when Mercury moves from setting behind the Sun in the west to rise before the Sun in the east. It changes from being an evening star to a morning star.

Effectively, this is Mercury’s hidden phase when Mercury is midway through its retrograde phase. What is being brought forth into your life? What messages are you receiving?

Make time to listen to your inner voice close to the Full Moon & the Sun/Mercury conjunction. Look out for synchronicities and nudges from the universe and listen to your dreams.

The Uranus Factor

There’s another planet involved in the Full Moon picture as change agent Uranus makes a trine aspect to the Sun (exact on January 5th) and talk planet Mercury (exact on January 8th) in Capricorn.

Capricorn leans towards the traditional and conventional, while Uranus has the opposite nature, i.e. different & unconventional.

These combinations are awakening as Uranus springs the Sun & Mercury to life. Listen out for synchronicities, tap into your intuitive nature and be spontaneous. Uranus is innovative & inventive, the spark that can get things moving.

The Moon is strong in Cancer, the eternal Mother, a symbol of the divine feminine, protective and nurturing. Home becomes important, wanting to protect what you have and care for the ones you love. The Full Moon in Cancer is a reminder to honour the past and hold on to what’s of value in your life.

Yet, this Full Moon could spring surprises and hopefully in a good way. Yes, Mars (action) & Mercury (communication) may be retrograde but don’t let that stop you listening out for insights and taking advantage of change.

Happy Full Moon
