Mercury In Gemini: Changing Your Mind

05 May 2021, 10:47 am
Mercury Gemini, questioning

The planet of communication Mercury has entered its first sign of rulership this week, Gemini, on May 4th. Mercury in Gemini is quick-witted, agile, clever with words, dexterous, a multitasker.

Mercury is the planet closest to the Sun and usually whizzes through a star sign in two weeks. The fact that Mercury remains in Gemini until July 11th immediately arouses suspicion. This means that the trickster planet will be up to its tricks on May 29th when it turns retrograde until June 22nd.

Therefore, if you have something important to communicate, negotiate, impart, speak about, write down or initiate, it’s a good idea to crack on before Mercury slows things downs. This includes anything to do with transport or technology too.

The Media Sign

Geminis abound in our modern world, as it’s the sign of talk & blather, journalism & reportage, wit & vitriolic. You find them in the media, in politics, on TV & radio.

They make excellent writers, presenters & story tellers.  A few Geminis that leap to mind immediately – Russell Brand, Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Laurence Fox, Boris Johnson, Jordan B Peterson.

As Gemini is the dual-natured star sign, they are also skilled at twisting the truth. Geminis make great actors. Gemini is a mutable air sign – think about the symbolism and you can see how they can change their minds, say one thing but mean another.

Money & Commerce

The big changes taking place in the world of finance & money are often attributed to Uranus’ move through Taurus, the money sign.

Uranus spends seven years in a star sign. Back in 2018 when Uranus first entered Taurus, we knew this was going to be a pivotal period for the money markets, the development of crypto-currencies and digital finance. Uranus is the technological planet and we’re becoming a cashless society.

Yet, it’s important to remember that Mercury rules trade – Mercury’s name is a derivative of both merchandise and the markets. It’s no surprise that Mercury & Uranus are lower and higher octaves of one another. Mercury moves quickly, Uranus is erratic. There’s a trickster element to both planets.

The last time Mercury was in Gemini for so long was May to July 2015. This coincided with the start of a decline in stock prices. If you’re in the money markets, it’s worth looking more closely at this repeating pattern.

Plus, the eclipses are in Gemini/Sagittarius this time around – key dates, May 26th & June 10th – and we know that eclipses often coincide with drama & unexpected events.

I recently found out there’s a Gemini crypto credit card linked to the Bitcoin Billionaire twins, Cameron & Tyler Winklevoss. They are Sun Leo but as Gemini rules duality & twins, Gemini was the ideal name for their digital exchange company.

The arrival of the Gemini credit card was announced on January 14, 2021, the day that Uranus turned retrograde. The waiting list commenced a few days before Mercury entered Gemini on April 27, 2021.

The credit card is due to be launched in the summer so hopefully they have their astrologer lined up with all the key dates. Here’s Mercury’s sequence of events over the next two months.

  • Mercury enters Gemini – May 4, 2021
  • Mercury enters its shadow phase – May 15, 2021
  • Mercury turns retrograde [24 Gemini 42] – May 29, 2021
  • Sun conjunct Mercury R [20 Gemini 21] – June 11, 2021
  • Mercury turns direct [16 Gemini 08] – June 22, 2021
  • Mercury out of its shadow phase – July 7, 2021
  • Mercury leaves Gemini – July 11, 2021

The most important dates are the Mercury retrograde phase from May 29th to June 22nd. This is not the ideal time to sign & seal a contract or make a major decision or investment. Instead, think of this as a phase to ‘be’ more rather than ‘do’ more.

Once Mercury turns retrograde, it’s time to turn your thoughts inward. You may find you’re playing a waiting game and have to be patient. Get ready to play a strategic game or go backwards and retrace your steps.

Admittedly, Mercury retrograde in Gemini could be great for a writing retreat or revising or reworking a past project but otherwise, it could be a time of snags and snafus.

Ideas & Ideologies

Gemini & Sagittarius are opposite star signs, linked to ideas & information, beliefs & ideologies. The next few months are likely to be a time when you’re changing your mind – a lot – perhaps because of circumstances beyond your control, perhaps because you’re gathering or hearing new information.

Dig a little deeper to read between the lines and challenge your ideas and beliefs. Be open-minded and flexible as Mercury takes us all on a circuitous route over the next few months. We’re entering into a questioning period in the year.

Here are the areas of your life where you’re most likely to be changing your mind. Read both your Sun & Ascendant sign:

  • Gemini – personal goals, image & profile
  • Cancer – personal issues, secrets & confidences
  • Leo – friends, groups & wider society
  • Virgo – career & vocation, status, future path
  • Libra – travel & study, beliefs & religion
  • Scorpio – joint finances & sexuality
  • Sagittarius – love & relationships, contracts
  • Capricorn – work & health, lifestyle & routine
  • Aquarius – birthing i.e. kids, love affair, creative project
  • Pisces – home & family, past conditioning
  • Aries – local community, ideas & communication
  • Taurus – money & values, self-worth
